Dr Jonathan Negus


With his career dedicated to all aspects of hip and knee surgery, including arthroplasty and sports surgery, Dr Negus has developed a surgical interest in computer assisted and robotic surgery. He is also experienced in both the anterior and posterior approaches to the hip. His clinical and research focus is on optimising patients’ outcomes by a detailed approach to outcome measurement and individualising the rehabilitation and general post-operative recovery of his patients.

Dr Negus has been awarded higher degrees from the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and the University of Sydney. He has worked and trained both in Sydney and in London, with visitations and fellowships across the United Kingdom and Europe to enhance his specialist training.

Dr Negus’ career in Orthopaedics has a strong academic and research focus. He won the Foundation for Surgery Scholarship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (2010) and the AOA Registrars Association prize for best registrar research during his training in North Sydney. This prize was awarded for work that formed part of his PhD thesis from the University of Sydney.

Part of his PhD thesis was to examine the use of novel technology in the rehabilitation of patients after knee replacement surgery. He has contributed chapters for books, published in prestigious journals, presented his research findings at conferences worldwide and is an invited reviewer for several of the major International Orthopaedics journals.

His regular teaching engagements at the University of Sydney, working with junior medical officers, allied health staff and medical students, offer welcome opportunities to pass on his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for his chosen field. He also uses his academic training to supervise MD students as part of his role as a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney.

Dr Negus operates at the North Shore Private Hospital, the Mater Hospital and St Luke’s Hospital. He consults at North Shore Private Hospital and North Sydney Sports Medicine Centre in St Leonard’s as well as at Pitt St in Sydney’s CBD.
